Operation Merkur is the first level of Battlefield II war story The Jägers. Player plays as private Hans Schmidt, a German paratrooper who participates in Crete Landing.
Similiar to other levels in this war story, the level begins with a parachute jump and is sandbox-styled, allowing player to choose the order of doing objectives. The squadmates will always follow the player and support him in his actions.
After landing in the small Greek town/village, player has to destroy 4 AA guns shooting German planes. One of them is set in the North-Western part of the map, on the small hill with a few houses on it. The second AA is near the Eastern gate of the city, while 2 last guns are on top of the city hall, being a 3-story large building, which is heavily defended. To this point, Greek soldiers are the enemies opposing the player.
After securing the city, player has to rendezvous with Storm Team Cäsar, trying to secure the southern part of a town, occupied by British soldiers, who are more dangerous and well-equipped than Greek volunteers. Player has to break through the streets eliminating any threat. After doing this, he is informed about the sniper team that has been trapped in nearby house by enemy sharpshooter. When player arrives to said house, he meets 2 wounded German snipers and has to eliminate the enemy one, which hides in one of the houses on the other side of a plaza.
Later on, player is informed that British have prepared a counterattack and every German units in this city have to repel it. Player has to go back to the city hall and eliminate many British soldiers, supported by a halftrack. When this task is done, the level is complete.
